Cold Season Relief

Well, it’s that time of year.  The time of runny noses, coughs, stuffy heads, sinus congestion.  If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, I have a WONDERFUL recipe for relief.  You can do it yourself at home.  It’s easy!

What you need:

large pot (larger than the circumference of your face.  You’ll understand why in a minute)

6 cups water

1-2 inches of fresh ginger root, finely chopped or grated, you can leave the rind on it

1/2 lemon, thinly sliced

large towel

Place ginger and lemon in water and bring to boil.  Reduce heat and simmer for 10-20 minutes.  After simmering, do that old fashioned thing of putting your face over the pot (but not TOO close), making a tent over your head with the towel, and breathe in that steam!  Be careful- remember it’s super hot!  Breathe under the towel, with occasional breaks, for 5-10 minutes.  Repeat hourly.  It’s also great to keep the pot simmering throughout the day wherever you are, adding water and more ginger and lemon as necessary.  (Of course, please DO NOT leave the pot unattended!) This gives everyone in the space relief.  Let me know what you think!
